DIY & REPAIRS
Stuck screws trying to install the scales
Heat will help loosen the the thread lock.
- Heat gun aimed at the screws until they get hot
- Blow dryer
- Soldering iron against the screws
- Oven or Air fryer at 250°F for a few minutes (careful, it will be hot, let it cool below 100°F or handle with heat protective gloves.
After installing scales nothing works
Most likely the pivot pin was not centered and may have been binding against the handle (hard to see when the scales are installed), or one of the screws on the pivot was tightened more than the other - this can cause the pivot to become seized to one scale. I recommend loosely tightening both sides of the pivot, making sure the pin is in both sides of the handle and centered, and then alternating 1/4 turn on each side at a time to ensure equal tension.
Tools aren't locking on 1 side
The leaf spring in the handle that works as the locking mechanism is not providing enough tension on the tools to maintain the lock.
- Remove the tools and D-pin pivot from that handle.
- Open the pliers (this provides better grip for the next steps)
- Pull the side tabs of the handle apart (where the pivot used to be) just enough to push the leaf spring up into the handle to increase the bend and thus the tension.
- Reassemble the pivot and there will not be more tension holding the tools in the handle.
1 tool isn't locking
Each of the Longer tools (or any tool placed in the outer slots) requires 1mm spacing from the side of the handle. The Hot Swap levers provide this, the Saw has a 1mm washer next to it in the default configuration, and the scissors provide their own spacing with their 2-layer design. Without the spacing, the tool will not align with the locking mechanism in the handle.
Scissors spring isn't working
If the scissor spring disengages and 'jumps' over the other arm, it needs to be gently bent.
- Remove the scissors from the handle (they need to be open for the groove to align)
- Gently bend the spring inward toward the center axis of the scissors. This will ensure it hugs the long arm instead of popping over the short arm.
- Reassemble and test
My tool won't stay closed
If the plier heads are opening the tool while folded - Use the 2mm Hex included in the tool, tighten the 4 screws attached to the pivot pins that hold the pliers to the handles. If the pivots are too loose, the pliers spring will force the tool open.
My handles aren't aligned
This is normal for folding pliers, due to the natural flex/play of the plier-heads in 1 direction more than the other, the ends of the handles will often not align perfectly when folded. When you unfold the pliers you will notice whatever difference there was between the handles is now opposite - so any design changes to eliminate the difference while folded would cause double the difference when open.
