So lets start this review with the fact that i accidentally ordered two goat tools. The owner was very quick in their responses to me about how i could send the second tool back and that I'd get a refund. Once i had gotten both of the packages delivered, i opened the first and found that the tool and sheath were missing and all the accessories were all over the packaging. So i quickly opened the second one, everything was there and tidy within the box. I'm still waiting to hear about what is going to happen about the missing tools.
My actual experience with the tool has been mixed. I bought the brass scales to put them on as soon as i got the tool but i found it incredibly difficult to loosen the screws to install the scales. It ended up being a two man job plus a blow torch to loosen the locktite in order to remove the screws and install the new scales. Clumping of the tools wasn't great but i have taken individual tools out and polished them and has eased the opening process quite a bit. I have also completely disassembled the tool multiple times when having to remove the screws for the brass scales and changing to different screws. I have gotten the disassembly down to a one person job.
I have found the knives(S35VN, Hobby Blade, Serrated) all to be very sharp and have cut myself with all of them at this point. The scissors have been wonderful too and have had no issues with the spring unlike many others. I am very pleased that the bit driver works very well with the leatherman bits because i always carried the extended bit carrier with my leatherman wave. Having the magnetic on the side does cause an issue with clumping with the long tool but I've just situated my least used long tool next to it. The smaller tools have been fine so far, the 2mm hex has seen the most use and i have the bottle/can opener which i primarily have used to clean my nails but the scraper and 10mm have gone unused so i wont comment on them.
I know there are many known issues with the wire cutters on the pliers and i have had my own issues cutting with it. I work in the IT field so i'm not cutting wires too often and i know many people recommend just using a dremel to open up a bit of space at the bottom of the cutters which apparently fixes the issue. I will most likely do that but also disassembling the tool isn't too difficult once you get the hang of it so the manufacturer could probably just sell a revised pliers head and sell it as a swap in replacement.
I use my leatherman wave with a 3rd party sheath that has a space for the bit sheath which is very convenient. The sheath that comes with the Goat Tool is reasonably good, it has the pouch for the bit sheath and even a pen and light. I store my pen easily and the same for my flashlight. If another sheath comes along without a velcro cover and just a spring tensioner that ill probably go to that but the sheath overall does a good job.
My main issues came from the need to fully disassemble the tool and bake off all the locktite in order to do general maintenance. I'm a left handed user so have a tool that i can swap tools around is fantastic and i'm super optimistic about the future of this company and the multi-tool. I'd rate this tool a 70/100 if possible. I think this is a very noble first attempt at a multi-tool and that if the company continues to support it, it'll only go up from here.
